If you have been trying to improve your website’s SEO in order to increase your organic traffic, you have probably become familiar with keywords and SEO tags. Now that your site is targeting keywords, how do you improve the ranking? To improve keyword ranking, you need to improve the authority of the page ranking for the keyword. To improve the authority of the page, we must increase the number of backlinks to the page. This process is called link building.

What is Guest Posting for SEO?

Guest posting is a process that involves you obtaining a link from another website in order to help search engines determine the authority of your site. How can link building help your site’s reputation as an authoritative source for specified terms? The more backlinks there are linking to a page, the more reputable it appears in Google’s eyes, therefore increasing your ranking for keywords.

How Guest Posting Works

Guest posting is a very simple concept. You write a post about something (anything) related to your niche and then send that post’s copy to another site for them to publish on their blog. In exchange, they link back to the original post you wrote (the one that mentions both you and your website). The more popular the website accepting your blog post, the more the link will help your website’s authority.

To determine a website’s authority, we use a term called Domain Rating or Domain Authority.

According to Moz.com: “Domain Authority is a score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). It represents an estimated level of trust that search engines have in the site and its contents.”

In other words, this number means that Google views sites with higher Domain Rating as trustworthy enough to rank well in their search engine results page. This is because Domain Rating also takes into account link popularity which is something Google tracks closely.

By guest posting for websites with high Domain Ratings, you are helping your own Domain Rating to rise while simultaneously earning link juice from those domains. This leads to higher rankings for your own posts or pages.

How to Find Guest Posting Opportunities

To find guest posting opportunities, we like to use Google as our main tool. Simply type in keyword searches like:

  • keyword “submit a guest post”
  • keyword “guest post”
  • keyword “write for us”
  • keyword “submit content”
  • keyword “contribute”

Gather a list of these opportunities, then determine each website’s domain authority. We also like to note the price of each opportunity as we look for Free opportunities.

Once you have your list of opportunities, it’s time to put together an email pitch and reach out to the websites to see if you can contribute.

To Sum It All Up

Link building is the process of increasing the number of inbound links to a website. The primary way we can increase links is through the process of guest posting. This process allows us to contribute content to a website in exchange for a backlink.
