Socium Spotlight: Kaelyn Keith
You’ve probably heard us say that people aren’t Socium’s most important asset; the right people are Socium’s most important asset. That’s why we started our Socium Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the diverse and unique personalities that make up the Socium team.
For this month’s Socium Spotlight, we’re excited to highlight Talent Acquisition Manager, Kaelyn Keith!
Looking back on your first day at Socium, how did your expectations compare to the reality of your role?
I knew coming into my role here that I’d be building out and scaling our recruiting function, but what I never anticipated was the degree of trust that leadership would put in me to be a leader and decision-maker.
What made you choose this career path?
For me, recruiting is about growing a business’ most important and valuable asset: its people. That shared philosophy is what truly resonated with me here at Socium and what enables me to not only enjoy my job but also rediscover my purpose and why I fell in love with recruiting 8 years ago.
What drew you to Socium?
Our leadership absolutely drew me to Socium. Our co-founders, Sam & Owen, as well as our leaders, truly enable our team to take the reins and think like an owner. I saw that I wouldn’t just benefit from that, but the talented folks I’d recruit to join the team would have the ability to experience a culture that values their skills and who they are as people.
What’s the best lifestyle benefit of working at Socium?
Unlimited PTO and the ability to be flexible in your workday. No one is punching a clock here, no one is monitoring when you’re online. As a working parent, the ability to pop out of my office and be part of my son’s day is invaluable. I’m empowered to have my personal and professional worlds function as one.
Have you always wanted to work in the marketing/advertising industry?
I wouldn’t say I’ve always wanted to work in the marketing/advertising industry, but it’s been my focus since high school and through college. I majored in advertising and public relations with the full intention of working in the roles I now recruit for. Interning at agencies in college, I loved the vibes, energy, and collaboration that happens within that space.
What did you use to daydream about being when you grew up?
Growing up, I always wanted to be a defense attorney (with the stipulation that I only wanted to defend wrongfully accused clients). I’ve always had a passion to fight for others and what is right, and it’s something that has translated over into my chosen career path in ways I could never have dreamed.
What kind of approach do you take when working with candidates?
I try my best to approach every role we open in a consultative way, understanding the needs of Socium and marrying that to the talent we seek to add to our team.
What’s something on your bucket list?
I absolutely love history and experiencing other cultures (both those that exist and those that are lost to time). It’s a dream of mine to visit every UNESCO world heritage site. There are 1,121 of them and so far I’ve been to 36. Lots of work to do!
How do you like your coffee or tea?
I love both, but I’m definitely a coffee girl. I’m not sure what I’d do without my 2 cups a day.
A huge thank you to Kaelyn for taking the time to work with us on this month’s Socium Spotlight!
