You’ve probably heard us say that people aren’t Socium’s most important asset; the right people are Socium’s most important asset. That’s why we started our Socium Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the diverse and unique personalities that make up the Socium team.

For this month’s Socium Spotlight, we’re excited to feature our SEO Sr. Strategist, Keith Claveria!

What made you choose this career path?
I got my start with my first job after graduating college, which focused on email outreach to build backlinks for websites. From there, I learned more about the wider world of SEO and fell deep down the rabbit hole. The problem-solving to keep up with Google’s ever-changing algorithm makes this career exciting and always on my toes!

What made Socium stand out when you were looking for your next adventure?
The people. The culture. During my interview process, I learned that employees recently organized a presentation/event to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month. As an Asian American, this stood out to me as, in my experience, it’s rare to see a company go to those lengths to highlight culture, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Have you always wanted to work in the marketing/advertising industry? Why or why not?
No! I actually started as a Computer Science major in college, fully planning on becoming a software developer. After realizing programming wasn’t for me, I gravitated toward marketing which provided the balance of strategy, problem-solving, and creativity I had been looking for.

What piece of advice would you offer fellow digital marketers?
Always keep learning, be open to change, and be able to adapt. Marketing, technology, and society are always changing and evolving. Keep yourself informed about the latest industry changes, how people interact with your work, and figure out how you can adapt your strategies.

What do you do outside of work?
I love to play board games. I own 50+ board games, which is probably way too many for a person to own, but my collection somehow mysteriously keeps growing…

What has been your favorite event/happy hour at Socium?
Our Chicago retreat! It was my first time meeting everyone in person, which was exciting (and I got to try deep-dish pizza for the first time, which was also very exciting!)

Thanks to Keith for working with us on this month’s Socium Spotlight!
