Socium Spotlight: Peter Angelopoulos

You’ve probably heard us say that people aren’t Socium’s most important asset; the right people are Socium’s most important asset. That’s why we started our Socium Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the diverse and unique personalities that make up the Socium team.

For this month’s Socium Spotlight, we’re excited to feature our Director of Paid Search, Peter Angelopoulos!

What made you choose this career path?
I actually fell into the world of Paid Search. While at my first job out of college, the person managing the company’s Paid Search campaigns left for lunch one day and never came back, so I teamed up with a coworker to learn the basics and ended up going agency-side shortly after.

What has your time at Socium taught you about the marketing/advertising industry?
The industry truly is ever-changing, and what works for one client won’t necessarily work for every client. As a result, our collaborative nature and desire to continually test are huge assets to both our team and our clients.

What drew you to Socium?
The culture and the people. The interview process was one of the most unique ones I’ve been a part of, and it showed me a lot about Socium’s values. The culture is so good that I had to come back to experience it again.

What made Socium stand out when you were looking or a new adventure?
It presented a new challenge for me in my career. Prior to joining Socium, I had worked at very large agencies and on teams as large as Socium. The prospect of joining a smaller, more collaborative team was intriguing to me.

What’s the best lifestyle benefit of working at Socium?
Getting paid an extra $250 when you take 5 consecutive days off. Disconnecting in this line of work can sometimes be hard, but Socium provides benefits that encourage it.

Have you always wanted to work in the marketing/advertising industry? Why or why not?
Not at all, I ended up in the marketing industry by luck, but I’m glad I did. I studied Finance in college, and I don’t think my personality would be well suited to that line of work.

What did you use to daydream about being when you grew up?
I wanted to follow in my Dad’s footsteps and be a police officer.

What’s a memorable campaign you’ve worked on with/for a client and why?
Restructuring the Industrious account. We improved performance while eliminating hundreds of Search campaigns.

What piece of advice would you offer fellow digital marketers?
Be willing to adapt. Throughout your career, you’ll likely work in many different verticals and with many different personalities. Being able to quickly adapt to the situation at hand will get you far.

What do you do outside of work?
I enjoy playing video games, golfing, and most things car-related, such as working on my car, driving my car, racing my car, or going to car shows.

What’s something on your bucket list?
Drive a car on the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany.

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go?
Greece.

How do you like your coffee or tea?
Replaced by Monster.

What has been your favorite event/happy hour at Socium?
Our retreat in Chicago. I was happy to play a large part in helping to plan the events, and it was a really cool experience to show Socium around my hometown.

What did you receive as your favorite food when you joined the Socium team?
Pretzels……about 5 pounds of them.

Thank you, Peter, for working with us on this month’s Socium Spotlight!
