You’ve probably heard us say that people aren’t Socium’s most important asset; the right people are Socium’s most important asset. That’s why we started our Socium Spotlight series, where we shine a light on the diverse and unique personalities that make up the Socium team.
For this month’s Socium Spotlight, we’re excited to feature our Paid Media Sr. Strategist, Rebecca Sands!
Looking back on your first day at Socium, how did your expectations compare to the reality of your role?
When I first started, I was definitely ready for a change coming from my last agency, but still nervous. From the very first day, everyone was so welcoming and supportive, which made transitioning into my new role a breeze. I was able to learn so much more in a short amount of time and appreciated that help was there if I needed it. Change is always scary, even if it’s for the better, and looking back a little over a year later, I know I made the right decision.
What drew you to Socium?
I was drawn to Socium not only for their amazing benefits, but also because I could truly see the potential for growth here vs. other agencies that reached out to me. A clear career path played a big part in my decision.
Have you always wanted to work in the marketing/advertising industry? Why or why not?
Interestingly enough, my first college major was fashion merchandising because I had always dreamed of working in that industry. After completing my first internship in NYC, I decided something other than fashion may be the right fit for me and switched my major to marketing, figuring that I could still apply those skills to fashion in the future. Now that I’m at Socium, I have had the opportunity to work with higher-end clothing brands and several other verticals. I’ve really enjoyed having the opportunity to learn the logistics of different industries.
What’s a memorable campaign you’ve worked on for a client?
A memorable campaign I’ve worked on is Little Dreams (baby-focused) for Canopy! They were looking to combat the seasonal slump of selling humidifiers through the Spring & Summer by essentially re-branding their original humidifier and focusing on the benefits that humidifiers have for babies all year round. This initiative has helped to grow Canopy’s business YoY, and Little Dreams now makes up ~25% of their business!
Cats or dogs?
If you asked me this 3 years ago, I would’ve said dogs, but fast forward to 11/2019 when I got my first cat Pico and I’ll never look back. As of 6/2021, I have two cats who are the lights of my life (Pico and Cooper). I still love dogs but I’m unsure if I would ever have a dog again! I’m truly a changed person, haha.
Shout out to Rebecca for working with us on this month’s Socium Spotlight!
