Socium Spotlight: Ricky Weiss

People aren’t Socium’s most important asset, the right people are Socium’s most important asset. That’s why we’re starting a Socium Spotlight series, where we’ll pull back the curtain and ask our teammates some fun, personal questions.

To kick things off, we’re excited to feature Ricky Weiss, Manager, SEO, for our first employee spotlight!

What made you choose this career path?
In college, I spent the majority of my free time learning the different parts of building and marketing websites and apps. From there, I started to pick up freelance jobs building WordPress sites and executing SEO strategies for clients. One client, (an agency) hired me full-time as an SEO Strategist, and the rest is history.

What drew you to Socium?
The ability to start the SEO department at an NYC agency really stood out as an incredible opportunity for my career and really aligned with my entrepreneurial interests.

Finish this sentence: ‘You can learn a lot about Socium by looking at its ____.’
Blog!

What did you use to daydream about being when you grew up?
When I was little, I always wanted to be a pilot. (I still would love to earn my pilot’s license one day.) In high school, I wanted to be a lawyer. Then, in college, I wanted to be an entrepreneur and business owner.

What piece of advice would you offer fellow digital marketers?
The best piece of advice I can give a fellow digital marketer is to try building a website of your own. By doing this, you will not only learn all the different parts of building a site, from working with a CMS to implementing tracking codes, but you will also have a playground to test in. Just launch something, it doesn’t need to be perfect to learn from it.

What has been your favorite event/happy hour at Socium?
One great memory, in particular, is the bake-off we did when Kevin J. and George joined the team. Matt S actually used an EZ bake oven to bake a miniature strudel, and it looked delicious! But, ultimately, the annual company retreat is definitely my favorite event we’ve done so far. It was a really great opportunity for me to have a real conversation with everyone on the team, individually.

And that’s a wrap! A big shout-out to Ricky for taking the time to chat with us for our first Socium Spotlight!
